About Us

The artists at Sandstorm Design bring a total of 40 years experience to the world of
glass art. Using techniques encompassing stained glass, etched glass, fused and
slumped glass along with glass blowing, torchwork and mosaics, the artists are
able to cross disciplines and methods to create one of kind pieces that are unique in
the glass art world.
Sandstorm Designs creates pieces from affordable bowls, sculptures and decor
items to show stopping gallery pieces. Although the studio specializes in "one of a
kind" work the artists recognize the need to produce works that put glass in the
hands of a wide audience.
The studio has developed a reputation for a series of works that are at the cutting
edge of the art form. Elaborate stringer bowls that capture the essence of glass
strings. Unlike many other works of this kind, relying on heavy mats of fused strings,
Sandstorm Designs' stringer bowls are light, airy and are stunning examples of
texture and light play in glassworks.
Roll up vases that combine fusing and glassblowing are the latest work to come out
of the studio. Almost a year in development, these vases are sculptural pieces in
their own right. The glassblower attaches to a sheet of fused glass that is dragged
from the kiln while it is hot. A second glassblower "catches" the piece and starts the
cleaning and rolling process. Additional heats are needed to complete the cleaning
and rolling. A torch is used to heat specific areas to make sure the seam is finished.
Finally, after cooling for a day, the piece is cleaned, ground and mounted to its foot.
Elaborate fountains made from glass flowers and old tree trunks bring the work out
doors. Melding the studio work with nature has created a unique sculpture that
incorporates both the movement and sound of water to make it complete.
